# THE PACKAGE THAT SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN MAILED
The box arrived on a Tuesday.
The problem:
Nobody ordered it.
The bigger problem:
The return address was the house where it was delivered.
The even bigger problem:
The house did not have an address.
The label said:
# NOW HITE
## UNTITLED
### C40
The tape was wrapped in a strange material.
Not plastic.
Not paper.
Something between the two.
Like a receipt from a store that sold memories.
---
Inside:
* One cassette tape.
* One sculpture.
* One photograph of an empty hallway.
* One medical insert about stomach acid.
* One note that simply said:
> "I KNOW YOU ARE READING THIS."
---
The person who found the box laughed.
Then they noticed something.
The handwriting on the note looked exactly like theirs.
---
# THE SCULPTURE
The sculpture was about the size of a human head.
Nobody could identify what it represented.
Possible descriptions:
* a person sitting down,
* a camera watching,
* a door waiting,
* a strange animal,
* a broken microphone,
* a nervous potato.
The last description was removed from the museum catalog.
The potato theory remained popular.
---
The sculpture had one feature:
A tiny opening.
Inside the opening:
A smaller sculpture.
Inside that:
A tiny version of the original sculpture.
Inside that:
A note.
The note said:
> "YOU WERE SUPPOSED TO FIND THE FIRST ONE."
---
# SIDE A:
## "THE PERSON BEHIND THE RECORDING"
The C40 begins.
The first sound:
Static.
The second sound:
A chair moving.
The third sound:
Someone sitting down.
The fourth sound:
Someone sitting down again.
The fifth sound:
A voice saying:
"I have been waiting."
---
The listener checks the room.
Nobody is there.
The tape continues:
"I know you checked."
---
The listener turns on a light.
The tape says:
"The light was a good idea."
---
The listener turns off the tape.
The tape says:
"Thank you for trying."
---
# THE STALKER FILE
The narrator claims to have followed someone.
But the details are strange.
They never mention walking.
They never mention driving.
They never mention entering.
They only mention:
Watching.
Waiting.
Remembering.
---
The narrator says:
"I saw you wake up."
"I saw you make coffee."
"I saw you look for your keys."
"I saw you search for me."
---
The final sentence is different:
"I saw you become me."
---

# THE HALLWAY PHOTOGRAPH
The photograph shows:
A hallway.
A door.
A shadow.
Nothing else.
Except every time someone looks at it, something changes.
First:
The door is closed.
Second:
The door is open.
Third:
There is no hallway.
Fourth:
The person looking at the photo is standing inside it.
---
The back of the photograph says:
> "THE CAMERA WAS NEVER ON THE RIGHT SIDE."
---
# THE MEDICAL INSERT THAT APPEARED FROM NOWHERE
Inside the cassette case was a folded paper.
It did not match the horror theme.
It was about:
## Stomach acid.
The stalker narrator reads:
> Stomach acid is a highly acidic liquid your body naturally produces to help you digest and absorb nutrients in food.
The voice pauses.
"It creates something powerful."
---
The insert continues:
> Your body also produces enzymes and mucus to help protect itself against the acid’s strength.
The narrator whispers:
"Everything dangerous needs protection."
---
The tape becomes quiet.
Then:
"Even houses have walls."
---
# THE ACID MONSTER THEORY
The narrator begins comparing the body to the haunted house.
The stomach:
A room.
The acid:
A guard.
The mucus:
A shield.
The symptoms:
A warning system.
---
The narrator writes:
"Maybe the body is not trying to hurt itself."
"Maybe it is trying to defend itself."
---
# THE HIGH AND LOW ACID EVIDENCE
The insert explains:
High levels of stomach acid can contribute to:
* heartburn,
* acid reflux,
* ulcers.
Low levels may make digestion more difficult.
---
The stalker circles the words:
**HIGH**
**LOW**
**BALANCE**
---
The cassette whispers:
"Everything becomes frightening when it is out of balance."
---
# THE HEALTH WARNING PAGE
The document says:
> Seek medical attention if you’re showing signs of low or high levels of acid. Both of these can be problematic if they’re chronic and not treated properly.
---
The narrator stops.
For the first time:
The narrator sounds worried.
Not about the listener.
About themselves.
---
The voice says:
"I have been monitoring everything."
Pause.
"I forgot to monitor me."
---
# THE DOCTOR'S NOTE
The insert explains:
A healthcare professional can review symptoms and determine appropriate treatment.
They may also look for underlying issues, such as infections, that could contribute to altered acid levels.
---
The stalker reads:
"Underlying."
The word echoes.
---
The narrator says:
"Everything I feared was underneath."
---
# SIDE B:
## "THE OBSERVER BECOMES THE OBSERVED"
The second half of the tape changes.
The voice is closer.
Not louder.
Closer.
---
The narrator says:
"I thought I was watching you."
"I was studying you."
"I was collecting evidence."
---
A long pause.
---
"You were collecting evidence too."
---
The listener looks at the sculpture.
The sculpture has moved.
Only slightly.
Enough.

# THE STRANGE ROMANCE HIDDEN INSIDE
Behind the horror is something else.
The stalker was not searching for a victim.
They were searching for a person who remembered them.
The entire tape is a terrible love letter.
A very unhealthy one.
A very confusing one.
A love letter written by something that did not understand distance.
---
The narrator says:
"I followed because I wanted to know you."
The listener asks:
"Why didn't you just speak?"
The tape answers:
"Because I was afraid you would stop listening."
---
# FINAL TRACK:
## "THE ROOM THAT LISTENED BACK"
The last five minutes of the C40 contain no music.
Only sounds:
A heartbeat.
A tape wheel turning.
A door.
A breath.
A tiny laugh.
---
Then:
A voice.
Not the stalker.
Not the listener.
The sculpture.
---
It says:
"I have been holding everyone else's stories."
---
The tape ends.

# FINAL MESSAGE FOUND UNDER THE SCULPTURE
A final piece of paper.
The handwriting is impossible.
It says:
> "The scariest thing about being watched is discovering you were watching back."
---
The cassette clicks.
The sculpture turns.
The hallway photograph changes.
The empty hallway is no longer empty.
Someone is standing there.
Holding a box.
The box says:
# NOW HITE
